The Exxon Valdez spilled between 11 and 38 million gallons of crude oil into the fishing waters of Prince William Sound. The spill contaminated more than 1,200 miles of Alaska’s shoreline. The date was March 24th, 1989. People came from all over to help in the clean up. Exxon, the coast guard, the state of Alaska, scientist and the federal government.
There were 33,000 plaintiffs. These plaintiffs never got to court until 1993.The oil spill is linked to genetic harm in animals, and in people. It has been reported on CNN that the vast majority of those who worked to clean up the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska are now dead.
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is now many times worse than the Exxon Valdez disaster. The LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL has an article entitled (Exxon Valdez oil risks spur warning for gulf cleanup crews ).They tell you about the general foreman of the cleanup crews of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska’s Prince William Sound and how sick they got.
There is also another Article by Merle Savage, a female general foreman during the Exxon Valdez oil spill beach cleanup in 1989. She talks about the beach crews breathing in crude oil that splashed off the rocks and into the air - the toxic exposure turned into chronic breathing conditions and central nervous system problems, neurological impairment, chronic respiratory disease, leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, liver damage, and blood disease.
Then there was BP’s safety training, what a joke. There was not one word about inhalation or absorption; it was skipped over completely. A Florida construction worker, who requested anonymity because he fears retribution from BP, confirmed the lack of safety training. Now A hundred Cleanup Workers in Louisiana and Alabama have reported chest pains, skin-and-eye irritation, nose bleeds, stomach problems, nausea, and other symptoms.
People wake up, your life is worth more than a paycheck and a free lunch . Haven’t you learned anything from the Exxon Valdez spill? This spill is much Worse! Take the money and see if you have time to spend it. Ask the people at the Exxon spill if the money is worth the health risk, that is if you can find a live person to talk to.
Professor Eiberg first implicated the OCA2 gene as being responsible for eye color. His findings are the latest in a decade of genetic research, which began in 1996.
A team at the University of Copenhagen has tracked down a genetic mutation and is the cause of the eye color of all blue-eyed humans. This genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a “switch”, which literally “turned off” the ability to produce brown eyes.
Professor Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine said we originally all had brown eyes. Variation in the color of the eyes from brown to green can all be explained by the amount of melanin in the iris, but blue-eyed individuals only have a small degree of variation in the amount of melanin in their eyes. The official name of this gene is “oculocutaneous albinism II.” The mutation affected the so-called OCA2 gene, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives color to our hair, eyes, and skin.
I thought this very interesting since my twin sister and I have green eyes, my brother has blue eyes and my mom has brown eyes.
P protein is a protein that in humans is encoded by the OCA2 gene. Genes hold the information to build and maintain an organism’s cells and pass genetic traits to offspring. So it all boils down to if you do not have brown eyes you have a genetic mutation.
This reminds me of the lyrics by Crystal Gayle, Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. Well now I know how people get different colored eyes though I do wonder how a few people get two different colour eyes?
Signing off - the ‘Green Eyed Girl’……what a great song.
