What is Nanotechnology? The Wikipedia, encyclopedia describes it like this:

Nanotechnology, shortened to “nanotech”, is the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures sized between 1 to 100 nanometer in at least one dimension, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. Nanotechnology is very diverse, ranging from extensions of conventional device physics to completely new approaches based upon molecular self-assembly, from developing new materials with dimensions on the nanoscale to investigating whether we can directly control matter on the atomic scale.

Let’s put this in English. Now, nanotechnology introduces a new wave of assaults on our foods. No one knows what can happen to humans when they eat nano food. Scientists have warned that nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter at the scale of atoms and molecules introduces serious new risks to human and environmental health. Our government is letting this technology be used without it being marked with labels on our food, right now.

Nanotechnology is the dream that scientists believe can remake the world from the atom up, using atomic level manipulation to transform and construct a wide range of new materials, devices, living organisms, and technological systems. In the absence of mandatory product labeling anywhere in the world, it is impossible to tell how many commercial food products now contain nano ingredients.

There is a growing body of toxicological literature that suggests that nanoparticles are more reactive, more mobile, and more likely than larger particles to be toxic to humans and the environment. Scientific research has shown that many types of nanoparticles can result in increased oxidative stress which can result in the formation of free radicals that can lead to cancer, DNA mutation and even cell death.

A study from 2004 found that carbon nanoparticles used in electronics and other materials, changed the entire physiology of fish that were exposed to it over the course of two days literally causing significant brain damage in these fish. Check out the study.

Now the pharmaceutical company wants to embed nanoparticles into your drugs.

Tell your local government that you want to see products that contain engineered nano ingredients labeled to allow you to make an informed purchasing choice. Then eat organic food.
